Welcome
You are looking at the “new and improved” Casper American Legion Baseball Club (CALBC) website! We believe this website will help promote better communication between the CALBC board of directors, the team managers and coaches, the players and parents!
As of today - site IS up and running – it WORKS - but we are not done "building" the site yet. We are trying to add the most important data first - and we'll keep adding until the site is up to speed accross the board. The site and will almost immediately become a viable way to distribute information to everyone associated with Casper Legion Baseball. But, we hope you can please remain patient with us just a while longer while we finish the re-construction of the website. It won't be much longer!
So, to get started, we thought it might be helpful to introduce the site to you and show you where the information you will want to find might be located.
On the home page there is a tool bar located just above this article that runs the width of the page. It contains several tabs behind which will be most of the important data on the site.
Here is what you can expect to find behind each tab:
NEWS: You will find general news and information about the program and anything that effects or sheds light on what’s happening in the program. You should see information concerning the board, the teams, the players and anything else that is “newsworthy”.
EVENTS: You can learn about all the upcoming events associated with Casper American Legion Baseball. This is where you will find information on fundraising events and parties (like the Dinner on the Diamond that Legion puts on); special promotions (like doing a few 50/50’s at CYBL’s “Last Game & Reunion Weekend celebration); the annual January organizational meeting and more.
TEAMS: This is the area where the coaches can post any information they want regarding changes in practice schedules, tournament dates game times, statistics, scouting reports, team policies - etc. Each coach will also have an e-mail address associated with the site. You may e-mail the coaches there (if that is something they will accept) if you like – and only the coach will see your e-mail address. If you want to send an annonyomous message to a coach or coaches you can either send an e-mail to info@casperlegion.com which will automatically be forwarded to the parent liaison who will present your discussion to the board or you can send the message directly to me as the parent liaison.
Slideshows – Check out images of the Oilers and Drillers in action. Don’t be surprised to find some “candid” shots of the fans, coaches and other “characters”that hang around the Legion ball fields during the summer!
Documents – This will likely be one of the most used and viewed tabs. This is where things like the season game schedules will be posted. Team rosters will also be posted under this tab.
Contacts – This is where you will find the phone numbers and e-mail addresses for the board of directors, coaching staff, other personnel.
Links - Visit the CYBL and other “baseball oriented” websites to see what else is going on in the baseball community!
Casper American Legion Baseball - Our History!
Casper American Legion Baseball enters the 2006 season seeking its first Oiler State Championship since 1996. The program won its first state championship in 1930. In all, the Oilers have won 19 State Titles in their playing history.
Much success has come to the program in recent years, including two consecutive State Titles by the Barons at the "B" level and championship by the Drillers at the “A” level in 2005 followed by a trip the Regional Tournament in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Actually, the modern record begins in 1966 which was a state championship year. A governing Board of Directors was organized in 1967 with its number one project to obtain a new ball park. Work commenced on what is now known as George Tani Memorial Field in 1968 and was finally completed in 1969. Prior to the installation of the chain link fence, at times the boundaries were marked with snow fence. Originally, the right field fence was 500 feet from home plate...quite a poke for a home run!
The field was reconstructed in 1974 including raising the field by three feet, after which is was reseeded and ready for play in 1975.
In 1979, the Oilers started a string of four straight state championships. And, in 1982, the Oiler team was the first to win a game in a regional tournament, finishing fourth at Billings that year. The following year, the Oilers hosted their first Region Seven Tournament and then repeated as host in 1987.
This will mark the 5th year the Oilers have played on Mike Lansing Field. The field is regarded as the nicest baseball field in the state, and plays host to the Casper Rockies of the Pioneer League.
There have been many state championships and near the top finishes for all three of the Casper teams: Oilers, Drillers, and Cardinals (Barons). One of the most memorable years was 1993. That was the year that the Drillers won the Sportsmanship Award at the State "A" Tournament, the Cardinals finished third at the same tournament, and the Oilers won the State "AA" Tournament.
The Oilers went on to the Regional Tournament in Billings, MT and finished a very respectable third, one of Wyoming's best showings ever. Additionally, recent accomplishments of the Casper teams have been the Oilers winning the "AA" State Championship in both 1995 and 1996. The Drillers placed third in 1995 and 1996 in the State "A" Tournament, second in 2004 and won the tournament in 2005. In 1997, the Oilers were defeated in the championship game by Sheridan in an exciting finish to a remarkable season which saw them win 50 games.
In 2006, we look forward to a successful year. With a new coaching staff that has instilled excitement in the program, encouraging all of our players to set and achieve goals, both on and off the field. American Legion Baseball has always been considered a program of distinction in Casper and we are working to continue to uphold that tradition.
